Greg Whaley is the President and Owner of Academy Solutions Group, LLC. He is a retired Air Force Colonel and Command Pilot who flew both B-52 and B-1B aircraft. His military service includes command tours at the squadron and group level, as well as, staff assignments at Strategic Air Command and the National Security Agency. Following the Air Force, he worked at SAIC and General Dynamics as a Senior Program Manager and Manager of a Line of Business until launching Academy Solutions Group, LLC in 2003.

He has grown Academy Solutions Group into a high-tech company specializing in support to DoD and the Intelligence Community in the areas of Cyber, Systems Engineering, Program Management Support, and System Development. His clientele includes companies such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, SAIC, L-3, ITT, CSC, and Serco. In 2008, Northrop Grumman selected ASG as a Small Company Excellence Award recipient from among more than 4,000 eligible small companies due to its contributions in the area of Cyber Defense.

Greg received a BS degree from the Air Force Academy in Engineering Sciences and an MS in Operations Research from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Additionally, he has an MBA from Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania.

Chris Wertman is Vice President for SETA at ASG. Chris has more than 25 years of acquisition experience in the Air Force, Civil Service, and as a contractor. With over 23 years in the U.S. Air Force Chris served in Thailand, S. Korea, Germany and several stateside locations, in the Personnel, Aerospace Engineer, and Intelligence career fields. Chris has managed multi-task order contracts in excess of $100M each. He has vast experience as a systems engineer with C4ISR systems development, installation, and operation. He has extensive modeling and simulation expertise including support to the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO).

He is a Project Management Professional (PMP), through the Project Management Institute. He is also a Senior Fellow with the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and past member of Simulations Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO), Military Operations Research Society (MORS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), and National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). Chris was an officer in SISO and a member of the IEEE Standards Committee.

Chris has B.S in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and an M.S in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Boston University.

Leigh Wacenske is the VP for ASG’s SIGINT developmental efforts on the East Coast. Leigh came to ASG from Lockheed Martin while supporting leading Intelligence Community Systems Engineering/Technical Assistance contracts. He served 24 years in the U.S. Army specializing in Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Communications Security (COMSEC), and Systems Engineering. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1996 as Chief, Tactical SIGINT Engineering, Research and Development Directorate, National Security Agency.

Leigh is a certified Professional Program Management (PMP) and holds several certificates in military SIGINT and COMSEC related fields. For the last 13 years, Leigh has been a defense contractor specializing in the development of cutting edge SIGINT and Network Defense technologies. He is at the nexus of Federal initiatives productizing passive and active Cyber efforts from the lab to DoD, Dept of Homeland Security (DHS) and commercial Internet gateways.

Leigh has a BS in General Engineering (major: EE; minor: Physics) from the United States Military Academy and attended the Army’s Command & General Staff College.

Joe Mudd is the Vice President for Western Region Operations. Joe is a 1978 graduate from the United States Air Force Academy. He served for 30 years as a pilot, program element monitor, strategic planner, personnel specialist, air operations center senior leader, and four-time commander before retiring as a Brigadier General. Before joining ASG, he briefly served as Vice President for Western Region Operations for QuantiTech, Inc. He has been with ASG since 2009 and leads ASG operations in Colorado, Nebraska, and Texas.

Joe is responsible for growing ASG’s business within DoD by focusing on support to US Space Command, US Strategic Command, Strategic Missile Defense Command, and US Northern Command. He has successfully positioned ASG on numerous contracts with prime contractors such as ITT, Intecon, and CAS. His primary focus is to leverage our company’s robust cyber capabilities into related markets.

Joe has a Bachelor of Science in General Studies from the United States Air Force Academy, a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from National Defense University. He is also a graduate of Air Command and Staff College and National War College.

Desiree Melnychenko is a Program Manager joining ASG in March 2008. A U.S. Navy veteran, Desiree is a PMI certified program management professional and has extensive background and work experience as a program manager with particular emphasis in budget and financial planning, execution and analysis, information technology portfolio management, and system engineering. Prior to joining ASG, Desiree worked for a number of large firms but sought out ASG for the specialized customer interface a small business provides.

Desiree has a Master’s degree in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.

Mike Sonnefeld is a Systems Engineer and Project Manager at ASG. Mike has been with Academy Solutions Group, LLC since 2006. He served 22 years in the US Navy flying EA-6B Prowlers as an Electronic Countermeasures Officer specializing in Signals and Communications Intelligence. He retired as a Commander in 2002 as the Naval Fleet/Force Technology Innovation Deputy Director for Requirements. In addition to two operational flying tours he served as an Electronic Warfare Officer for the USS New Jersey Battle Group and Air Operations Officer for USS Harry S. Truman. He also had engineering tours at the US Naval Academy; Chief of Naval Operations Director, Test and Evaluation, and Technology Requirements (OP-098); and the Office of Naval Research.

Mike has worked as a defense contractor since retiring, initially providing SETA support to the National Tactical Integration Office (NTIO) on interoperability, connectivity, modernization, and security for NSA. Currently he provides systems engineering and project management support to a development project responsible for providing the next generation storage and retrieval solutions for SIGINT and Cyber Defense.

Mike holds a BS in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and an MS in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Steve Hubbard is an ASG Project Manager. Steve is a retired Naval Officer with specialties in Surface Warfare & Intelligence and subspecialties in Space Systems Engineering & Operations, Computer Science and Electronic Warfare. As a Defense Contractor for the last 16+ years, Steve has supported multiple customers, including NSA, CIA, NGA, NRO, IC CIO and the USN in system engineering, acquisition and project management.

Steve is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), through the Project Management Institute and has been with ASG since 2005. He is highly experienced in providing SEATA support to large SIGINT and Cyber Defense development efforts across project management, system engineering and acquisition.

Steve holds a BS in Physical Science from the U.S. Naval Academy and has completed postgraduate work in computer science & electronics engineering.
